Welcome to the Library
The Library is open and our team are ready to help! It is great to be back. Things are slightly different in the Library this academic year and we are making every effort to comply with the Government guidelines to keep our students and staff safe. Our opening times can be viewed on our LibGuides homepage.
Both Lincoln and Newark Libraries have floor markings and signs to help you with social distancing. Study tables for individual students have been marked out to make sure people aren't sat too close together. We have also added protective screens at our Help Desks and some of the study tables.
Additional hand sanitising stations have been placed at the entrance and throughout the Library area. Please make sure you use these!
PCs and Laptops
Due to social distancing guidelines, there are only a limited number of PCs available to use in the Library. You will need to book a PC in advance of your visit to the Library by going to the Book a Space page. Ask at the help desk for a sanitised keyboard and mouse.
Laptops can be borrowed for use at the study tables. Once you have finished with your laptop, keyboard, or mouse, please return them to the IT Equipment Sanitising Station so we can clean them for the next user.
Booking a Study Table
To study in the library, you will need to make a booking in advance of your visit, similar to booking a PC. Visiting the Book a Space page and select a study table. You can book an hour at a time, up to three hours a day.
Click & Collect
Please use our Click & Collect service to reserve any items that you wish to borrow from our shelves. Full details of how to place a reservation can be found under the 'Click & Collect' section of the Borrowing Items page. Once you have placed a reservation, please allow up to 24 hours for your request to be processed. Items requested from other campus Libraries may take slightly longer. You will receive an email to let you know when your items are ready to collect. Don't forget your Student card!
We are only allowing a limited number of people in the Library at a time. Please be aware that you may be asked to wait outside the Library entrance if more than 2-3 people are queuing at the help desk.
Library Information Adviser and Study Skills Support
Our Library Information Advisers are on hand to support you with your studies. Study skills sessions are offered on a range of topics including referencing, researching assignments and writing essays. Just email your Library Information Adviser directly or contact the Library to arrange a face-to-face or telephone appointment.
Higher Education (HE) students studying at Lincoln College who do not live locally can request up to 4 items at a time via our postal loan service. Any number of requests may be submitted up to the maximum loan limit. Students who live within a 40 mile radius of the College are not eligible to use the service.
To reserve an item, simply follow the process for Click & Collect. You will need to select your home Library as a pick up location. Then add a note to the form stating ‘distance learner – please post’ to make it clear you require the item to be posted, along with your address. Please discard any automated collection emails sent via the Library Management System. The item will be issued to your Library account on the day of posting and you will receive an email confirmation.
We will post items to addresses in the UK using Royal Mail Signed For delivery. Students using the postal loan service are responsible for the books from the point they receive the items until they are checked back into the Library. Students can return loaned items in person when they visit the campus. If they choose to return items by post they must pay any associated charges themselves. We recommend returned items are sent via a tracked service please.
HE students receive four unseen automatic renewals. However, if an item cannot be renewed because it has been reserved by someone else it must be returned to the Library as soon as possible.
If there is an eBook available of the title requested, we will not offer a Postal Loan for this item. We have a large selection of e-books which can be accessed via the Library Catalogue.
Students attending campus within the next 7 days are to use the Click & Collect service and not to request items by Postal Loan.
Full details of all our loan procedures can be found under Borrowing items.
