The Library: Finding Resources

Finding Resources

Two female students in the Lincoln library, holding books and smiling toward each other.

We have all kinds of resources in our Libraries to help you with your studies. All books, multimedia and periodicals are listed on our Library Catalogue.

Searching the Library Catalogue

  • A search can be carried out using a title, a keyword, ISBN or Advanced Search
  • A successful search will show if your chosen title is available, its location, coloured zone and call number
  • Make a note of this information as you will need it to find the item
  • All of our resources are arranged in colour-coded subject zones
  • Everything is shelved in Dewey Decimal order, which is the title's call number
  • Items not held at your home Library can be requested from our other Campus Libraries
    (see Inter-centre Loans)
  • If an item is currently out on loan, you can place a reservation on it to borrow when returned
  • Items we do not stock can be requested from other Libraries, such as the British Library
    (see Inter-Library Loans)

Please speak to a member of the Library Team if you need help finding anything.

Your Library Account

  • You can check the status of your loans by logging on to your Library Account
  • You can also renew your items from your Library Account

Course Reserves

  • If your course has a set reading list, you will find it under Course Reserves
  • These are kept up to date
  • Search either your tutor's name or the name of your course to find your reading list

Saving Items

  • You can save the results of your searches by selecting 'save' beneath an item
  • They will appear under My Items
  • You must log in to retain your saved items between sessions
Discover More
Find books, eBooks, eJournals and more...

Discover More is a powerful search tool that will retrieve a wide range of print and electronic resources, such as journal articles, ebooks, magazines, images and more.

  • Conduct keyword searches, or use the advanced search options to narrow down results with Boolean operators
  • Search results can be refined using the options in the left column, ie. publication date, material type, or peer reiviewed
  • Many subjects will have a Research Starter, which supply comprehensive summaries of a subject and provide a good starting point of high quality information for your research. These will appear at the top of your search results
