Additional Learning Support : EHCP

EHCP

ECHP Overview

EHCP stands for Education, Health and Care Plan. It is a legal document that the Local Authority put together which documents a learners additional needs. If you have an EHCP the college should be made aware of this. Before you enroll at college the Local Authority should send us a consult. It is also a legal requirement to annually review the document.

Consult

If you have an EHCP the Local Authority should consult with the college about your plan. By sending us a consult the Local Authority share a copy of the most up to date EHCP which we use to ensure that the college is able to meet your needs. It allows us to have a good understanding of the support you will need and a consult will trigger additional contact and support to ensure that your transition to college is as smooth as possible.

Transitions

The Transition Coordinator works closely with learners that have an EHCP and supports them with their college journey. They will help transition you into college life and support you during your time at college. They will then support you with your next steps in life, whether that is another course at college or moving into different educational settings or the work environment.

Annual Reviews

Every year your EHCP needs to be reviewed and updated to reflect your current needs. The college will organise this for you and will be in contact to book a date that is best for you. We will discuss your current progress, plans for next year, concerns and successes. We will then write up the Annual Review Paperwork and a copy is sent to you. The Local Authority is then responsible for making any relevant changes and a final plan should be sent to you and the college.

If you have concerns or worries you can request that the annual review is bought forward and the college may also chose to bring an annual review forward to ensure that a learners needs are being met

Parent / Carer Group

The parent/carer forum is a monthly remote meeting for parents and carers of EHCP learners. The meetings are an opportunity to discuss pathways into adulthood and any queries relating to college and progression. We sometimes invite guest speakers from other college departments and external organisations, if there is a demand for specific information from parents/carers.
