Travel to College

If you are aged 19+ on 31/08/2023 the following college help may be available to you through our Learner Support Fund. This fund is means tested. You must travel more than 1.5 miles to the nearest Lincoln College site which offers your study programme to receive this support. Other rules may apply. 

Support includes:

  • A maximum of £60 per week (£2,160 per academic year) towards the cost of your travel
  • You will be responsible for paying any additional travel costs.
  • Payments made will be in either termly or half-termly instalments.

To see if you are eligible for financial support please apply online through our online application portal.

To prevent your application being delayed please ensure you upload of all the requested financial information, these can be PDF's, photographs or screenshots. We will let you know by email/letter within 10 working days (15 days during Autumn Term) whether or not your application has been successful or if we need further evidence.

  • Once you have submitted this Application Form to the Financial Support Team you will be notified within 10 working days (15 working days during Autumn Term 2023) if any further information is required to support your application.
  • 2.
  • If any further information is required to support your application we will contact you by email and explain what additional information/evidence is required.
  • 3.
  • Your application for support will now be assessed to confirm your eligibility. You will be notified by email the outcome of your application within 10 working days.

If your application is unsuccessful we will email you and let you know the reason why. If you believe the decision made not to support your application is incorrect you can appeal in writing to the Financial Support Team Leader, Student Services, Lincoln College, Monks Road, Lincoln, LN2 5HQ

These Funds are made available through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and are not available to learners on Full Cost courses, Higher Education courses, Apprenticeships or any waged training undertaken. Other rules and regulations apply, including residency criteria.

Your local bus company may also offer a range of reduced cost travel tickets. Stagecoach, for example, offer a range of Young Persons DayRider, Flexi5 and other ticket discounts

Your local Rail Operator may also offer a range of reduced cost ticket options, such as weekly, monthly or season tickets. East Midland Trains, LNER and Northern Rail 

You may be able to reduce the cost of your Rail Operators ticket price even further by purchasing a 16-25 Rail Card. This costs £30 and gives 1/3rd of some rail fares.
